Primarily made up of correspondence from Hardy to his family. Letters from 1941 through June 1944 recall his secondary education at Woodberry Forest School. Those from January through July 1945 cover his basic training with the Field Artillery Reserve Training Corps at Ft. Sill, (Okla.). Of primary interest, correspondence from November 1945 through 1946 recounting his service in the Army's 707th Ordnance Company during the Allied occupation of Korea. They vividly describe his duties; free time activities; the country; its people, their demeanor, their native costume, and how they feel about the U.S. presence. Also includes letters from Lois Jean Hardy about her education at St. Catherine's School and Rollins College. Newspaper clippings and correspondence tell of Hardy's father, Lt. Col. James E. Hardy's command of the 150th Field Artillery Regiment.
